Our editorial standards
We publish opinion, but we hold it to the standards of reporting.
- Make one clear argumentState your position in the first two paragraphs. An op-ed argues; it does not summarize.
- Back it with evidencePeer-reviewed research, official data, reputable outlets. Not Wikipedia as a primary source.
- Write for a general readerExplain jargon, skip academic citation style, keep paragraphs short.
- Be original and unpublishedNot on a blog, LinkedIn, Medium, Substack or any other public platform.
- Submit exclusivelyDon’t send the piece to other outlets while we review it.
- Disclose AI useAI for research or grammar checks is fine, but the ideas and writing must be yours. Say so on the form.
- Disclose conflicts of interestAny funding, employer, client, membership or affiliation related to your topic.
- Respect peopleCritique ideas and institutions freely. No personal attacks, hate speech, defamation or incitement.
- Expect editingWe edit for length, clarity, style and accuracy, and may change your headline. You approve the final version.
- Keep your rightsYou keep copyright and grant us a non-exclusive license. Republish elsewhere after 30 days with a link back.
